Power Boat Volunteers - Parmelia Night Race

On Friday 7th of February, the Sailors will be conducting their annual Parmelia Night Race Event. This is a very important event in their Sailing calendar and we need 7 Power Boats to volunteer to man stages on the course.

Our Sailors generously assist Power Boat owners at their annual Cork Evans Time Trial so it would be fantastic to see as many Power Boaties as possible return the favour.

All that would be required is for you to attend the briefing at the Club at 6:30pm on the night, anchor up at your allocated spot on the river ready for the race to start at 7pm. You will need a torch to enable you to read and record the name and sail number of the passing Yachts and return to PFSYC once your last boat has sailed past you.

To register your help please call Reception on (08) 9386 6437 or email

Note from Rear Commodore Regatta - Equipment Auditing

What it is and how to become an Equipment Auditor - Are you interested?

The last newsletter contained information about, and the link to, the Category 7 form for races held during daylight hours.  It is hoped you have commenced your self-audit of the safety requirements included on that form.  These requirements also ensure your safety when cruising.
This newsletter the focus is on official Equipment Auditing run though Australian Sailing.
The National Equipment Auditor Scheme provides a system for Organising Authorities to nominate Equipment Auditors to audit boats for races.
Equipment Auditors are volunteers who give their time to assist yacht owners and clubs maintain safety standards. The role of the equipment auditor is to assess a yachts equipment as a guide to owners and clubs organising a race that the owner has complied with the Special Regulations for the relevant category of racing that it is intending to compete in.
Audits are completed by Auditors on behalf of clubs who nominate the auditors to represent them.  Equipment Auditors are trained and accredited by Australian Sailing.
Equipment Audits are also useful to keep you safe when cruising.  Having someone provide advice on how to increase the safety of your crew, yourself and your boat for free is an opportunity that should be taken up by anyone heading out on the water.

There are two steps to becoming an Club Level Equipment Auditor:

  1. Attend and pass a course
  2. Have your accreditation confirmed with your club by Australian Sailing

The next Equipment Auditing Course will be held in May/June 2020 (dates still to be confirmed by Australian Sailing).

If you are interested in becoming an Equipment Auditor for Perth Flying Squadron, please email to express your interest.
