IAN SWANN

Over the years, Ian has been actively involved in the club’s annual Busy Bee and have been honoured to receive several Volunteer of the Year awards—recognition that makes him proud to be part of such a great club community.

​

Ian has worked in the transport industry for over 42 years, gaining extensive experience across a wide range of roles. Early in his career, he owned a trucking company, before moving into senior positions with two major transport organisations handling East–West and West–East express freight services.

 

Throughout Ian’s career, he has held roles in:

• Account Management

• Customer Service Management

• Operations Management

• Branch Management

In my most recent roles, he spent 24 years and 12 years respectively managing depots, where Ian developed strong leadership and operational skills. A highlight of his career has been overseeing the development of two multi-million-dollar transport hubs, including a $25 million operational facility at Perth Airport, which was successfully completed within just nine months—from initial groundworks to full completion.

Ian has a strong understanding of cost control and service delivery, with hands-on experience managing company profit and loss (P&L) performance on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Ian also prides himself on being practical and hands-on, with the ability to undertake mechanical and electrical work when needed. Ian’s passion for boating began at an early age. Over the years, he has owned a range of vessels, including ski boats and jet boats, and currently own a 32ft sports cruiser, a Four Winns 288 Vista BlueDreams (DH822). Ian is also an avid scuba diver and thoroughly enjoys life on and around the water. His connection to the club began on my first visit, where he met former Commodore Norm. Since then, he has immersed myself in the club, building strong relationships with staff and the Committee.

Ian is a strong advocate for PFSYC and regularly promotes the club to members of the public when launching, retrieving, or simply answering questions. Ian is always willing to lend a hand. Whether it’s assisting with maintenance, helping members with their boats at any time of day, or supporting operations alongside Harbour Master Dave or Bosun Piersen, he takes pride in contributing wherever he can.

Ian has been a Member of PFSYC for 5 years and currently holds a position on our General Committee.
