Races

Through the year Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club holds many competitive races providing some healthy competition between Club Members and other Clubs on the River.

Opening Day 2023

Opening Day marks the beginning of our Sailing Season and we certainly started strong this year with competitors from PFSYC, International 14's and the Sharpies. A beautiful afternoon on the water with some healthy competition led to a very successful Race Day.

Parmelia Night Race 2024

The only race to be held on the Swan River at night proved once again to be a challenging night for all competitors with the wind dropping off early.

Wally Pickford Memorial Marathon Race 2023

Every year Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club holds the Wally Pickford Memorial Marathon named after Past Commodore Wally Pickford. Wally was born and bred on the Goldfields and had rarely seen a river before a job opportunity brought him to the big smoke. Wally quickly grew fond of the water and before he knew it, he was sailing on the Swan at every opportunity. It wasn't long before Wally was a respected Member of the Club Committee and in 1995 Wally was elected as Commodore. He went on to serve as Commodore for 3 years.

The wind was well and truly in, resulting in the race being able to start on time which also provided for great weather for all our competitors throughout the race.

Pacer Regatta Race - 16.01.22

PFSYC was thrilled to host the recent InterClub Pacer Regatta on Sunday 16th January. A great day was had by all and we are now looking forward to this event being held annually as well as a series of Pacer races held throughout the year at the Club.

It was fantastic to see our Junior Sailors Alice and Clara out there on Norts (coming 5th overall), our coach Frances and our keelboat skippers and crew - all having a go! - some of whom had not sailed dinghies before. Everyone was up to the challenge! Thank you everyone for your participation.
